Welcome to our Holy Communion service. We’re pleased you’re here and sincerely hope you will be blessed.

We ask you to have a candle ready to light at the beginning of the service, and also a piece of bread or a biscuit or even some crisps, and a cup of wine or juice (or even water – after all the Lord turned water into wine!). It really doesn’t matter in these circumstances what you use – just something to eat and to drink.

You can follow the service by downloading the order of service – however, you’ll be able to see all hymns, readings, etc. by simply following the video below.

You can also watch the service on YouTube.

The funding of our worship, ministry, and outreach relies on your financial support – and in the absence of an offering in the service, a donation via the below PayPal option will be highly appreciated.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING

Dear Friends,

Greetings to all at the end of another week!
This week we pre-recorded the readings for the Carols by Candlelight service that goes out on Christmas Eve from 19.30 hrs. In a difficult time, it was wonderful to hear these Christmas texts being read – ‘the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light…’ The choir have been hard at work and a splendid service is in store. I do hope that you will join us – and invite all your friends.
It was good to have a time for chatting after the service last week on Zoom, but there is room for plenty more people! Join us after the service for a short time of fellowship this link. This should give you access, though once again I will explain on Sunday morning on the live stream two other ways you can access these chat rooms.

Otherwise, Just a couple of things:

  • A reminder that on Sunday evening there is a service of evening vespers for Sinterklaas being organised by the four churches on the Spui and Singel. The service is at the Old Lutheran Church, opposite us on the Spui, at 17.00 hrs. If you would like to be physically present at the service please register (due to Corona) via Betty Bos, ebosmiedema@gmail.com or om 020-3342535 / 06-17552015. The celebration will also be live-streamed which you can watch ‘live’ or return to at a later time. Go to the website for the Evangelisch Lutherse Gemeente Amsterdam.
  • This Sunday is Holy Communion. Please try to join in at 10.30 so that we can celebrate together, even though we are separated. Have some wine or juice ready and some bread or a biscuit. Details below.
  • The programme for this WEEK: below:

    A word about finance….
Please note that in this period when we are not meeting together there is a way of giving to the church on this website. Please use the PayPal donation button on the right.

    Dear Friends,

Greetings to you at the end of another week! I hope everyone is keeping well as the days daw in and Christmas decorations begin appearing throughout the city.

I’m glad to say that continued work on the technicalities of live-streamed services is, I think, improving the quality of the filming – especially the sound – and I hope that you are managing to access the services OK. You will find the link for Sunday’s service below in this week’s programme.

This coming Sunday is the last Sunday in the Christian year as next week is the 1st Sunday in Advent, marking the start of the four week preparation for Christmas. This Sunday has become known as ‘Christ the king’ or ‘The reign of Christ’ Sunday – a fitting note to end the year on, and a reminder that it is Jesus and not Covid-19 that rules the world! However difficult things may be, his light will overcome this darkness, as we declare at the beginning of each Sunday service when we light our candles.

A reminder that as part of our Advent season, as from next Sunday, we are planning to offer an opportunity after the live-streamed service to go into a chat room, where a small group of half a dozen people or so can at least say hullo to one another on-screen and chat for a bit if they wish.

The programme for this WEEK: below:

    Dear Friends,

    Greetings, once more!

It is very heartening that there has been good news this past week of a possible breakthrough in the field of vaccines. Thank God for scientific and medical research, and let us continue to pray that these developments fulfil all hopes and expectations!

As far as our Sunday services go, much work continues to be put into these and to getting them right and problem-free. We are hugely indebted to a small group who have been putting in many long hours. A couple of points about our live-streamed services:

    • Please note that there will be a different link each week for accessing the service. This link will be on the website each week and I will also share it here in my weekly letter (see below);
    • One thing that we miss about ‘normal’ Sunday services is chatting and socialising afterwards. We are hoping therefore soon to offer an opportunity after the live-streamed service on Sunday to go into a chat room, where a small group of half a dozen people or so can at least say hullo to one another on-screen and chat for a bit if they wish. We will try to make it as simple as possible to move from watching the service to accessing a chat room. We are aiming to do this from Sunday November 29th which is the first Sunday in Advent. I think as we draw near to Christmas that it will be good to have this facility.

    Dear Friends,

    Greetings to you all!

I have to apologise for some gremlins that caused some problems last week with our live-stream recording. As a result we were unable to put the recorded service up on the website and we thought it best to put just the recording up as a podcast. We have done some work on this in the past week and hopefully things will run more smoothly this week.

This Sunday is Remembrance Sunday which, like everything else, will be strange without a congregation. However, we will be holding the 2 minute silence as usual and I hope that many of you can join us at that time via the live-stream.

One other matter: I am planning to run another ‘Walk Through The Bible’ – a four week course that is aimed at people who are considering Church membership, baptism, confirmation, or who just fancy a refresher course in the Christian faith or a better understanding of the Bible. I will be doing this on Zoom, probably one night per week for four weeks, and anyone wishing to take part, please contact me on pastor.l.stone@gmail.com .

I hope you continue to keep well.
